Last night’s band practice was a lot of fun. Several numbers went quite smoothly. Some need a bit of spit and polish. The lead singer kept missing the key changes, which was QUITE annoying.
I plan to work up lyric sheets with background vocals highlighted, so that we can start working on the harmonies. A couple of the numbers we do are ready for that advanced treatment. Phillip mentioned that we are almost at the point to sit down and actually map out the structure of some of the songs so we can start doing them the same every time.
We discussed having a PA fund. Rodney has been charged by Dave to investigate the type of PA we can acquire for approximately $2400.00
We ran through Louie Louie and Closing Time to warm up. We worked on Blister In The Sun, Jenny, New York Groove (for the first time), What I Like About You (and I think we made some good progress there), Drift Away (it was determined that Wes’ singing style is better suited for the vocals on this one), Ain’t no Sunshine (I think it was the best we’ve done it), Stuck In The Middle with You, Tainted Love (need some serious vocal work on this one), My Sharona (that one was a lot of fun) and wound up the night with some that we are quite familiar with – New Age Girl, Stacy’s Mom, and Cocaine.
The best line of the night belongs to Rodney:
“I scribbled some notes on the back of Stacy’s Mom.
Ideas for next time?
