Last night was a GREAT practice. I was amazed that we got through all of our scheduled songs – some a few times!
We ran through Ain’t No Sunshine, Smoke From A distant Fire, Chevy Van, My Sharona, Sex and Candy, Safety Dance, Blister In The Sun, Radioactive, What I Like About You, I Wish I Had A Girl, Gimme Some Lovin’, Tainted Love, Closing Time, Black Betty, Fooled Around And Fell In Love, with impromptu jams on Smoke On The Water with perhaps a little Magic Carpet Ride tossed in for good measure, and vocals from Sleepin’ on the Sidewalk slipped in sideways.
Once again, I was able to cheat P out of a solo or two, and my timing on Safety Dance was FINALLY saved by Big Hand himself when he said, “When you stop singin’, don’t start up again until I roll.” And we rolled!
Speaking of solos, don’t be thinking that you can chop ALL of ‘em out Mister! I think Chevy Van cries out for a good old-fashioned country-rock guitar solo.
And yes, Big Hand was vindicated on the tempo of My Sharona. Sometimes he really does know what he’s talking about.
I was especially pleased at the progress we made in the backup vocal/harmony department. It’s coming right along.
There were several memorable quotes. “Close enough for Rock & Roll” was one. Not exactly original, but definitely apropé. P’s “Quick but not fast” was amusing, and Rodney wins again with “I just got caught up in the moment.”
Ahh good times.
It was decided that Dave will try to arrange the noise makers in such a way as to not make Wes’ ears bleed. We must take care of Wes as we DO NOT want him to go deaf.
I’m looking forward to next time!
